Dark matter in galaxies

According to the T.V. series How The Universe Works, cosmological dark matter basically holds galaxies together in addition to gravity cohesion, and both of these things prevent every galaxy out there from falling apart.. At the same time, dark energy is breaking the universe apart. The core of this or a side effect of it may be the universe’s acceleration principle at work.
